Transaction logs on one of the databases is rapidly increasing (Exchange 2010)

Dears,

We've exchange 2010 in our environment. Transaction logs on one of the databases is rapidly increasing.  I installed EXMON utility to check which mailbox consuming high CPU and Log Bytes, and I couldn't find anything as the mailbox consuming high CPU and log bytes in EXMON is sitting in a different database and not this one, so it seems something else is causing this issue on this database. Kindly advice.

How can I increase allowed maximum?

Exchange Management Shell - Access is denied

So this has been driving me a little nuts, hoping someone can shed some light.  I am working from a stand along Windows 2008 R2 server running Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 22.  I just noticed today that I am unable to launch the Management Shell while logged into the server directly.  I receive the following error:

However, if I install the Exchange management tools on a remote workstation, the shell seems to launch and function just fine.  I've been researching a ton and ran across the following article that looked promising...

https://tsoorad.blogspot.com/2013/06/exchange-2010-emc-ems-winrm-access-is.html

But in my case the self-signed cert already was present in the Trusted Root Store.  However, it was expired.  Anyone know what is going on?  Typically I have only ever worried about the external service URLs and a publicly trusted certificate being set via the enable-exchangecertificate command.  Is it possible that this self-singed certificate also needs to be maintained and facilitates encrypted PowerShell connections?

Here is what the path variable looks like on the server when running the "set" command:

Path=C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Windows\idmu\common;C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin

Problems with synchronization and Shell responds to commands that mailbox not found. Please help.

Hello.
I have a small office I support with about 12 staff. We have SBS 2011 with Exchange 2010. All major service packs and patches installed. Outlook mixes of 2013 2016 and a few 2010. All was working ok until recently staff complains that the calendar items they add on each other's shared calendars don't appear.
I ran best practices wizard all is ok aside higher send message limit but I don't think thats a problem its been like that long time.
However one thing I noticed is that if I try running a command such as get mailbox permissions, the Exchange Shell reponds that mailbox not found. I made sure I use correct command and it works on other servers I manage that also have SBS 2011/Exchange 2010.

If I configure Outlook to not use Cached mode then Calendar items for shared Calendars show up just fine (those that I add after the change). But problem is if I do that change then seems like a lot of the cached calendar items that were entered prior disappear.

Please help if you know a fix, I'm not sure what else to try. I ran all pending updates (were barely any) and restarted. By the way when I did that staff said that a few old items that didn't show up showed up. But the problem still exists on their server and synchronization is broken and Shell doesn't find mailboxes when responding to commands.

Is there a way to forward certain undelivered messages to another mailbox

Hi, as part of an application we rolled out for external clients, there's a requirement to identify when someone has given us an invalid email.

For the self registration, we just assume what's entered is correct. When it comes time to send an email to them from the application, some of the emails have failed - we'd like to be notified when that happens.

The emails are all sent from the same email address, so is there a way to forward certain undeliverable messages to another mailbox?

thx

On Premise Exchange User not able to view free/busy information of O365 user

Hi all,

We are having a problem that some of our Premise Exchange user is not able to view free/busy information of O365 users.

Not all of our on premise users have this issue, only some of them. This issue only happened on Outlook 2013 client, it has no issue at all when user access with Outlook Web Access via browser. For PC experience this problem. We create another user profile in this PC and test, the result is same. It seems that this is PC related problem, we suspect it is related to Office/Windows patch level. Moreover, this issue is only one direction from on premise  Exchange user -->O365 user while O365 user can view free/busy of on premise Exchange user without any problem.

Do anyone experience this kind of problem before and any solution to it ?

PC Windows version : Windows 7 64 bit

Office version : Office 2013 32 bit and 64 bit

Exchange version : Exchange 2010 & O365 (Hybrid Exchange Environment).

Thanks a lot!

Gary.

Need to delete over 3 million emails from a user's mailbox...

To give some background...

We have a 2010 on-prem Exchange hybrid environment integrated with Office 365 that is front ended by a 3rd party SPAM filter and email security service.

The issue in question involves one of our on-premise user mailboxes that had a forwarding rule to an outside mailbox with a sister company.  Our Information Security team implemented a new email content policy that inadvertently caused an email loop as the response back to the user contained the same exact verbiage as the original message.  As a result the TotalIemSize of the mailbox when performing a Get-MailboxStatistics command results in a single mailbox of over 9TB.  Yes!  You read that right.  The physical database does not reflect that being that large and all integrity checks on the mailbox and database appear to be successful.

When trying to perform a search from the EMS shell it results in pages of errors.  So the user can continue working I have created a temporary AD user and mailbox and given full permissions to the affected user's mailbox.  I have also gone into Outlook 2016 where I can get to the affected mailbox and created a mail rule that I run manually to search by the subject and "permanently delete" the messages.  It runs successfully for awhile and the unread item count next to Inbox decrements as expected until it inevitably results in an error message that says "You do not have permission to perform this operation...".  I have found a few articles suggesting a 4000 message limit on moves and deletes and have also gone to the permissions on the Inbox and granted Delete permissions for "ALL" messages.

I am running out of options short of maybe copying all of the users good emails to a PST, then blowing away the 9TB mailbox and creating a net new mailbox for the user.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciate.

Message delivery

This is the problem:

This is an SBS2011 server running Exchange 2010:

A former user returned to work, in his absence, for 2 years, his email was set with delivery options to be forwarded to an alternate user. In the mean time other outside technicians were in playing on the server and in Exchange and I have no idea what they did but here is what is happening today.

I have removed the forwarding

The user gets internal email to his inbox

External (internet) emails hit the server and generate a “delivery report” but they are not delivered to the user.

I have looked everywhere I can think and find no error.

There is no machine with this user logged on running outlook for local rules that would delete emails.

I couldn’t find any rules on the server that would delete or refuse emails to this user.

The user has multiple email addresses with 2 domains on this server

Both domains work for all other users

All emails for this user react the same way in either domain.

Any suggestions on where to look?

Old Exchange 2010 to New Exchange 2010

Hey all,
I am in need of some advise with Exch2010.  My current Exch environment is a single 2010 server with all roles installed, no CASArray, no DAG.  We have about 8000 mailboxes, outlook, activesync are used.  We had some issues trying to migrate to Exch2016 and had to back out.  Exch2016 has been completly removed from AD.  Without getting in to the details of why the 2016 migration failed we have decided the problem is with our current Exch2010 environment.  So, the plan is to build a new Exch2010 environment with 2 CAS servers, 2 DB servers for a DAG and define a CASArray.  Once the new Exch2010 environment has been setup we plan on migrating users from old Exch2010 to New Exch2010 with new URLs.  One we have migrated users to the new 2010 we plan on attempting a Exch2016 migration again.

Where I am seeking advise is with the CASArray.  As I said we do NOT have a CASArray now, once we define an CASArray with the new servers only this will break comm with current clients correct?

I have enabled Set-Mailbox -AcceptMessagesOnlyFromDLMembers in Powershell. Also, I have Message Approval enabled on my Distribution Group. The problem is that the Arbitration email address are not in the Distribution Group. (I don't know how to add them). So now, none of the messages that the Members of the Distribution Group are sending are able to be approved, as I am not receiving the Message Approval email. Anyone know how to fix this?

Exchange Server version confusion

Hi,

I have Exchange server 2010 SP3 installed.

The WindowsUpdate asks me to install Update Rollup 8-v2:
Rollup 8-v2

But I have installed Update Rollup 24 already:

Update Rollup 24

So I started to examine Exchange version and I discovered powershell "Get-ExchangeServer" returns 14.3 123.4:

Get-ExchangeServer | select name, admindisplayversion
Name AdminDisplayVersion
---- -------------------
Exchange01 Version 14.3 (Build 123.4)

Same in the EMC -> Server Configuration.

The About Exchange Server dialog shows 14.03.0399.00:
About

Only the powershell "Get-Command ExSetup" returns correct version (Rollup 24):

Get-Command ExSetup | ForEach {$_.FileVersionInfo}

ProductVersion FileVersion FileName
-------------- ----------- --------
14.03.0419.000 14.03.0419.000 C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin\ExSetup.exe

So, is my Exchange Server only partially updated? Are some files still in the old version? It looks like Windows Update thinks so, if it wants to install the old patch ...
